Emiliana Torrini supporting Tricky for North Am dates

Icelandic-Italian trip-pop singer Emiliana Torrini (a sometime guest artist with Gus Gus), who just finished a North American tour opening for Dido and Travis, is now set to launch another supporting Tricky for eight dates starting 18 July at The Government in Toronto. She’ll also play solo in LA and New York city.
    A few years ago, by serendipity, the 23 year old singer/ songwriter/ producer met Roland Orzabal (of Tears For Fears) at London’s Heathrow airport. The two eventually collaborated on Torinni’s first few singles and on her debut album Love In The Time Of Science. All came out the second half of 1999 on One Little Indian records—home of The Sugarcubes and later of that band’s singer, Björk.
    Since then Torrini has earned a following in Europe, but is still working on finding fans in the UK and the US—where critics tend to dismiss her (stupidly) as a Björk clone.
