The Clean reassemble for new studio album
30 January 2001
image
Depending on how you read it, legendary New Zealand rock trio The Clean have broken up and reunited four times in their 23 year history (the Rough Guides view), or the members sometimes take breaks and do other stuff. In any case, we’re very pleased to report that singer/ songwriter Robert Scott (also of The Bats, The Magick Heads, solo, and of his new band Harmonic Deluxe), drummer David Kilgour (also of Yo La Tengo, tour-wise, and of his new band David Kilgour And The Heavy Eights), and guitarist Hamish Kilgour (also of The Mad Scene and Bailter Space) have been working in Dunedin and Aukland on a new studio album. Details are scarce, but Flying Nun and Merge Records are hoping for a release this year.
Scott released a compilation album with The Bats recently containing two previously unavailable tracks, You Have The Right and I’ve Seen It All Before. Titled Thousands Of Tiny Luminous Spheres, the new Bats compilation is hard to find outside of New Zealand but you can mail order it directly from Flying Nun. The truly busy Scott releases his solo album The Creeping Unknown for the US next Tuesday on New York indie label Thirsty Ear Recordings. | The Clean on Flying Nun | | Robert Scott on Flying Nun | | Flying Nun | | New Zealand music history on Noise.as | | top of page |
