Creeper Lagoon headline teen-only evening 29 January 2001 Dubbed The Fishbowl, the Saturday night event this weekend featured San Francisco indierock guitar band Creeper Lagoon along with Xiu Xiu (see our story on them today), EE, The Contrail, Gwendolyn, and Quazar And The Bamboozled. Managed by 21 year old Eric Fanali, the Fishbowl was conceived as ...a safe place for teens to socialize and be entertainedor be the entertainmenton Saturday nights. Bands play for the exposure and for the good feeling of helping keep youth safethey dont get paid (although a tip cup gets passed around). Admission for Sunnyvale high school students is free, and just $3 for nonresident teens. You present a school ID or drivers license at the door, and so-called 'adults' are not allowed in. The rules are up front and clear: no moshing, stage diving, drinking, smoking, drugs, or vulgarity. And the proceedings end sharply at 11 pm. All evening you can buy coffee, Odwalla juices, and croissants. But the excellent bands, good sound system, and cool audience ensure that the almost-eerie wholesomeness doesnt fuck up the atmosphere or the experience. Creeper Lagoon, whose front man Sharky Laguana remarked during their set that it was somewhat odd being one of the oldest people in the room, are on a short US tour which includes upcoming dates in California and New York. Their most recent release is the Watering Ghost Garden EP, released on SpinArt records last October. Their new album Take Back The Universe & Give Me Yesterday has been pushed back about a month, now set for release 17 April on Dreamworks. | Creeper Lagoon | | The Fishbowl | | Dreamworks Records | | tour dates | | discography | | top of page | |
