The Sleeping Flies lay down ambient backdrop to crass TV
25 January 2001

Swedish trip-pop/noise-core trio The Sleeping Flies, with but a single song to speak of and no product of their own available from any source we know about, have landed a major television deal with US wireless telecom startup Cingular.
The band’s song Feel Like Movin’ On, which has been on Internet, Swedish, and US college playlists for a while thanks to its inclusion on the Kindercore Fifty sampler, can now be heard during commercial breaks to such shows as The Simpsons and Survivor II.
If you prefer a less inane context for your noise-core, you might want to check out last year’s 3-CD compilation Kindercore Fifty featuring bands on both the Kindercore label and sister imprint Electronic Watusi Boogaloo. Disc one covers bands new to the labels, disc two is a retrospective with several out of print songs, and disc three is all remixes. Kindercore is best known for such bands as Of Montreal, The Olivia Tremor Control, Japancakes, and The Sunshine Fix; while EWB so far features The Sleeping Flies, Biowire, Mains Ignition, and Babalu.
The debut album by The Sleeping Flies is titled You Are Superior. It’s due from Kindercore/EWP this summer. | Electronic Watusi Boogaloo | | Feel Like Movin' On (full length RealAudio) | | Kindercore store | | Cingular | | top of page |
