Webcast replay of Breeders reunion show; new LP tease
24 January 2001

Five weeks ago a re-formed Breeders performed unannounced in Los Angeles at the Hot Pants nightclub in Mr. T’s Bowl. It was the Pixies-spinoff band’s first show since 1997, and made quite the press splash—with stories on NME, SonicNet, CDnow, and RollingStone.com. Although Webcast live, few were aware that the event was happening. Now LiveClubs.net has posted a video of the show for free viewing for a limited time. Available in two formats (including QuickTime), most Web users will be able to access the feeds.
The only original members of The Breeders at the LA show were sisters Kelley and Kim Deal, who first got back together two years ago to contribute to The Mod Squad soundtrack. Helping out at the gig last month were José Medeles on drums, Mondo Lopez on bass, and Richard Presley on guitar. New songs included Put On A Side and Fire The Maid.
Since early 1999 the music press has published rumors about a new Breeders album. The latest tease comes from Chris Sharp at 4AD Records, who wrote last September, “The plan is that The Breeders will record a new album with Steve Albini in Chicago in January [2001]. If that happens—and with Kim there’s always an if—then 4AD will release it in the early summer of 2001. And I’m sure that they'll be playing live around the release of a record.”
In any case, the venue at which The Breeders played in December is notable itself, so here’s just a bit on the Hot Pants club. In collaboration with LiveClubs.net, they host lots of cool Web casts and the occassional benefit show. This Thursday Hot Pants at Mr. T’s hosts a benefit for Van Nuys, California non-profit organization Children Of The Night. For more than twenty years COTN has worked to help children forced into prostitution to break free and live healthier lives. Check out their site for more information or to donate. Bands confirmed for Thursday’s benefit include Adz (formerly The Adolescents), Agua Fantastica, Kids Of Widney High, Lucid Nation, Mordecai Smith (magic), Menthol Hill, and Trailer Park Casanovas (El Vez doing bluegrass). | The Breeders | | Video on LiveClubs.net | | Children Of The Night | | Hot Pants nightclub | | discography | | top of page |
