Miranda July debuts The Swan Tool in Holland this month 15 January 2001 The Swan Tool was commissioned by the Festival and by the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, and features a live score by DJ Zac Love. Ms. July previewed it last year around the US. She describes it as a 'live movie' that ...combines video, performance, music, and helium to tell the story of a woman working in an insurance company. Lisa [played by July] cannot decide whether to live or die. Rather than choose, she digs a hole in her back yard and buries herself. Following the self-burial she attempts to continue living and working, but the thing in the hole will not die and she is unable to forget about it.... Additional European performances over the next few months include Vienna on 20 February at Kusthalle Exnergasse/WUK, and London on 2 March at the Institute of Contemporary Art. July will stage the US premiere of The Swan Tool on 23-24 March at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Arts Scottish Rite Center. | Joanie 4 Jackie | | Rotterdam Int'l Film Fest | | WUK | | ICA | | discography | | sample | | top of page | |
