The Rosenbergs, Napster pursue innovative marketing

New York city power pop band The Rosenbergs signed to Robert Fripp’s Discipline Global Mobile label last year on the strength of their artists’ rights convictions (see our previous story). Now the band have teamed with music file sharing service Napster for a tour and a very unusual CD release. The first 10,000 copies of their new album Mission: You, due on the 20th, will include a separately wrapped bonus copy of the disc bearing the Napster logo, to give away to a friend.
    Band manager Adrian Molloy said “With the Napster copy, we are trying to show that getting the music out there will ultimately grow the Rosenbergs’ audience and increase the band’s revenue stream. We’re investing in potential fans in the hope that they invest in us.” Front man David Fagin added “We love the idea of more people listening to and wanting to share our music. Napster made that easier on-line. With their help, we’re making it easier off-line as well.”
    The Rosenbergs’ US tour, sponsored by Napster, starts next Wednesday in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Here are all the dates
