Coldplay Webcasts from Sydney and Vancouver

London romantic pop quartet Coldplay, on the eve of their debut North American tour, won three awards yesterday at the annual NME Carling Awards: Best New Artist, Best Single (for Yellow, of course), and BBC Radio 1 Evening Session of the Year. Last week the video for Yellow won the Best Video award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival’s Plug-In Awards ceremony.
    At least five of the North American tour’s 10 major-city dates are already sold out—the band have apologized to fans on their Web site for not telling them the dates first. Yes, it’s a long way from an obscure single on the Fierce Panda label less than two years ago.
    Australian band Powderfinger will support all of Coldplay’s North American dates except the opener in Vancouver tomorrow, for which Lily Frost will open.
    Now Virtueoz.com, a Sydney based affiliate of London Webcaster Virtuetv.co.uk, has posted an on-demand Webcast of Coldplay’s January 2001 performance at The Metro. The Vancouver show on 8 February will be Webcast live by the House Of Blues starting 9 pm PST (2 am GMT).
    After their final US show in Miami on the 23rd, the band head back to London for the annual Brit awards on the 26th. Coldplay then enter the studio for about a month before further shows in Europe.
