Rammstein to release new album in April
5 February 2001

Rammstein release their first studio album in three years early April worldwide, titled Mutter. The German techno metal band, whose name and first single darkly and sardonically commemorate a horrible 1988 airshow disaster at the American Ramstein air force base, gained worldwide notoriety in 1999 when investigators revealed that they were among the artists (with KMFDM and Marilyn Manson, among others) favored by two Littleton, Colorado high schoolers who plotted and carried out a spree slaying on their classmates.
The band enjoy playing provocateur—a couple of years ago their video for Du Hast featured Nazi film footage. And their aggressive sound, pursued as much for irony as energy, certainly draws fans from demographics that could benefit from serious intervention. But Rammstein are clear about their values. Immediately following the Columbine massacre, they wrote “[Our songs] have no lyrical content or political beliefs that could have possibly influenced such behavior... Members of Rammstein have children of their own, in whom they continually strive to instill healthy and nonviolent values.” Bolstering credibility for a kindler, gentler Rammstein was their selection in 1999 to open for the aggressively antiracist Skunk Anansie on a major US tour.
The rumored track listing for Mutter, published last month by the herzeleid.com fan site, is Mein Herz brennt (My Heart Burns), Links 2 3 4 (Left 2 3 4), Sonne (Sun), Ich will (I Want), Feuer frei (Fire At Will), Mutter (Mother), Spieluhr (Musical Clock), Rein raus (In Out), Adios (Goodbye), Nebel (Fog), Zwitter (Hermaphrodite), and Pastor.
The first single will be Sonne, featuring an instrumental version of the title as well as non album track Clawfinger. It’s due mid month, as is the video.
Rammstein play two shows in Japan this week. They’ve posted dates for a two week Germany tour the second half of May, probably to be followed by a North American tour this summer. | Rammstein | | fan site | | tour dates | | bio | | discography | | top of page |
