27 February 2001

On 9 July, Olympia, Washington indie Chainsaw Records will release the Ladyfest Live CD, containing performances from the first ever Ladyfest celebration of women’s music, art, and politics held last summer. Donna from Chainsaw and Tina from Kill Rock Stars are sorting through tapes now. While they’re not revealing details, Tina recently said “Respect is due to the audio crew—this CD is going to sound great and include many of your favorite KRS and Oly bands.” Likely prospects for the disc include (among others) Bangs, Bratmobile, Cat Power, Har Mar Superstar, The Haggard, Sleater-Kinney, and Mary Timony.
Meanwhile, the premier Ladyfest has spawned no fewer than three follow-on festivals for this summer. Scheduled and seeking artists and speakers are Ladyfest East, set for 2-5 August in Easthampton, Massachussets; Ladyfest Scotland, 12-14 August in Glasgow; and Ladyfest Midwest, 16-19 August in Chicago. | Chainsaw Records | | Kill Rock Stars | | Rockbites story on upcoming Ladyfests | | top of page |
