Señor Coconut US album release + tour
22 February 2001

LA’s Emperor Norton Records, home of Lousiana’s The Olivia Tremor Control, Liverpool’s Ladytron, and Finland’s Pepe Deluxé, next month will release for North America the very odd ambient/techno/latino El Gran Baile by Señor Coconut, aka Atom Heart, born Uwe Schmidt.
Raised in Germany, living in Chile, Schmidt has played on more than 140 albums under a ludicrously long list of pseudonyms including Atom And Tea Time, Geez N’ Gosh, Erik Satin, and Los Samplers. The forthcoming album saw original release in Germany in 1997. Another version came out in Japan the following year.
Then last year, Schmidt released El Baile Alemán, a rather surrealistic but very engaging set of Kraftwerk covers performed as Latino pop. You can find that album, along with several Señor Coconut singles, EPs, and the German release of En Gran Baille, at indie distributor Forced Exposure.
Señor Coconut starts a brief US tour on 15 March at Austin’s annual South By Southwest festival. Other dates include Seattle, Los Angles, San Francisco, New York, and finally Miami at the Winter Music Conference. | Atom Heart, Uwe Schmidt, Señor Coconut | | Señor Coconut on Emperor Norton | | Señor Coconut on Forced Exposure (USA) | | Señor Coconut on Cue Records (Germany) | | discography | | top of page |
