Superchunk working on new LP, touring US
15 February 2001

North Carolina’s Superchunk, who burst onto the US musical landscape eleven years ago with their high energy The Chunk EP and Slack Motherfucker single, are gradually assembling a new album for release in the first half of this year. They’ll be previewing new songs on a ten date US tour starting Friday in Charlotte.
Now Merge Records, the label they started, has posted a couple of acoustic demos likely to appear in finished form on the new, not yet titled LP. You can download the songs as free, full length MP3 files (check our links).
Joining Superchunk for most dates will be Austin trio Spoon, who release a new album of their own next week. And the final east coast date, also in North Carolina, will be a triple bill featuring Superchunk, Spoon, and fellow Merge artist and former Spent singer/guitarist Annie Hayden.
Meanwhile, Superchunk main man Mac McCaughan has been busy with his other band, Portastatic, who released their dreamy, latino-tinged, noisy pop De Mel, De Melao EP last year. McCaughan and Portastatic recently recorded the score for the upcoming film Looking For Leonard. The soundtrack CD is due 22 May on Merge.
