Kante offer largely acoustic LP with subtle depth 12 February 2001 Like deep and clear water, Zweilichts surface is pure and simple. Yet the album offers seemingly endless mystery once you look closely or jump in. For example, the songs Die Summe Der Einzelnen Teile (The Sum Of The Parts) and Itouri, despite their German language vocals (and my lack of understanding) offer up a quiet intensity almost classical in feel. The arrangements are there for you to explore and get lost among but only if you actively choose to walk in. This is a beautiful and subtle record that continues to surprise, the more you listen, with fascinating textures and gorgeous tonal juxtapositions. Kantes Zweilicht was produced by Tobias Levin (To Rococo Rot, Go Plus, Surrogat, Capt. Kirk). It came out worldwide in early January on EFA/Caroline for North America and on Kitty-Yo in the UK and Europe. Three bites out of five. Rockbites ratings 5: life changing, 4: stunning, 3: captivating, 2: amusing, 1: annoying. | Kante on Atrecordings | | Kitty-Yo | | discography | | CD | | top of page | |
