Julie Doiron lends a hand & voice to Gord Downie solo LP
12 February 2001

New Brunswick born singer/songwriter Julie Doiron will be one of several guests on the upcoming solo album from The Tragically Hip’s Gordon Downie, tentatively titled Coke Machine Glow and due 6 March for North America. Doiron, once the bassist for Eric’s Trip and previously known as Broken Girl, sings on one track and plays piano on two.
Downie, a cult hero in his native Canada, has also enlisted the musical help of Steven Drake, frontman for The Odds; Josh Finlayson, guitarist for The Skydiggers; Dale Morningstar and Dave Clark from quirky/psychedelic trio The Dinner Is Ruined; and, apparently, Toronto film director Atom Egoyan.
Julie Doiron, meanwhile, is getting ready to record an all-French language album this month for release only in Canada. It will be a follow-up of sorts to her delicate and haunting 2000 collaboration with Mike Feuerstack’s band The Wooden Stars, which was titled simply Julie Doiron & The Wooden Stars. You can also catch her singing four songs on the upcoming album by Feuerstack’s other band, Snailhouse, due the first half of this year. | Julie Doiron | | The Tragically Hip | | The Skydiggers | | Sonic Unyon (label for The Dinner Is Ruined) | | bio | | discography | | top of page |
