27 December 2001

New Zealand guitarist and songwriter David Kilgour, best known for his work with his band The Clean and with Hoboken, New Jersey pop stylists Yo La Tengo, is set to release his fourth solo album on 22 January for the US on Merge Records. Titled A Feather In The Engine, the 13 track set follows Kilgour’s last solo effort, First Steps And False Alarms, by seven years. It also follows Kilgour’s appointment to the New Zealand Order of Merit this past January by Queen Elizabeth of England for his contributions to the arts.
On A Feather In The Engine, Kilgour worked with frequent collaborator, engineer/producer Nick Roughan (Bilge Festival, Bailterspace, Superette), and enlisted Graeme Downes of The Verlaines for help on keyboards and on string arrangements. Tracks on the LP are Sept. 98, Slippery Slide, All The Rest, The Perfect Watch, Instra 2, I Lost My Train, Time To Run, Today Is Gonna Be Mine, I Caught You, Instra 2 Reprise, Wooden Shed, Which One, and Backwards Forwards.
