GSL Records reveals partnership, film & DVD plans
9 August 2001
image
This past January, as Texas rockers At The Drive In were playing their final gigs before disbanding for a while in favor of side projects, ATDI guitarist Omar Rodriguez was quietly establishing a partnership with Sonny Kay, founder of San Diego indie label Gold Standard Laboratories.
Kay started GSL eight years ago while an undergraduate in Boulder, Colorado, later moving the company to Berkeley and then San Diego. Along the way he’s promoted such bands as The Get Hustle, Gogogo Airheart, I Am Spoonbender, The Stitches, and most recently ATDI spinoff De Facto. GSL released De Facto’s debut album Megaton Shotblast on CD and double 12" vinyl a couple of weeks ago.
The new collaboration between Kay and Rodriguez seeks to expand GSL’s repertoire to include production of DVDs, CD-ROMs, and films ranging from short subject to feature length. Could be interesting...
Oh, and by the way: De Facto played last night in San Diego, and play tonight at The Smell in Los Angeles with 90 Day Men and Paper Chase. | GSL | | Megaton Shotblast from CDnow | | top of page |
