RAINN sponsoring benefit shows throughout August

Working with grants from the Warner Music Group, American singer/songwriter Tori Amos (Myra Ellen Amos until she was 17) founded the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN) in 1994. Amos, who turns 38 this year, was herself a victim of rape at age 21.
    Nonprofit and not government supported, RAINN works with musicians and celebrities to raise funds to support their national, toll free, confidential counseling hotline for victims of sexual assault. It’s available 24 hours a day at 800-656-HOPE.
    This year RAINN has launched a month long series of fundraising concerts around the US in honor of Amos’ birthday on 22 August. More than 100 are confirmed around the US, with others set or coming together in Australia, Canada, England, Wales, Italy, New Zealand, and Sweden. Funds raised will support the counseling hotline.     One of the more interesting 'birthday bash' celebrations takes place tonight at Nashville, Tenessee’s Slow Bar, where members of Departure Lounge (from London but who’ve been living in Nashville this year) will perform duets along with Fleming and John, Josh Rouse, Venus Hum and Joe, Marc’s Brother, and more special guests to be announced. The show starts at 9:30 pm. The Slow Bar and the artists are donating 100% of the $10 cover charge to RAINN.
