Coil to headline 7th annual Convergence Festival in NYC
6 August 2001

London goth experimental pioneers Coil are set to headline next week’s three day+ Convergence Festival in New York city. Officially running 17-19 August, informal events surrounding the annual nonprofit goth event are coming together for the 16th and 20th. You can get full information on the festival Website.
Tickets, on sale since June and of which no more than 1,000 will be sold, are nearly gone. To purchase, check our link.
Coil’s performance on Saturday, capping a bill that includes Claire Voyant, Deep Red, Mirror Reveals, Neurepublik, and Snog, will be the legendary band’s first ever appearance in North America. Their Website reported last month that plans are in progress for a full North American tour. But core member Peter Christopherson wrote last week “This will be absolutely your last opportunity to witness Coil in its present form performing the songs that have been so successful in Europe in the last few months. After this Thighpaulsandra will be leaving the band to start a 'sabbatical' with Spiritualized that may apparently last up to two years, and Coil will mutate into something different. So we suggest you do not miss this opportunity to witness the Coil live experience!”
Meanwhile, Thighpaulsandra (born Tim Lewis) last week released the four track Michel Publicity Window CD-EP on Eskaton for the UK.
Coil (for now founder John Balance, core member Peter Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra, Tom Edwards, and Martin Schallard) have perforned periodically in the UK and Europe—most recently in June in Leipzig, Germany at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen, a major festival that also featured Laibach, Front 242, In The Nursery, Christian Death, Das Ich, Sanguis Et Cinis, and others. Following their New York appearance Coil will play 15 September at DK Gorbunova in Moscow.
Coil released their album Constant Shallowness Leads To Evil last September for the UK on Eskaton. In December their floated a teaser about a new LP to be released this past January, but now US based nothing records, so we hear, will release it in 2002. Stay tuned. | Convergence Festival | | order tickets | | Coil | | Thresholdhouse (Coil merch site) | | bio | | discography | | top of page |
