Laetitia Sadier and Tim Gane’s free spirited London electropop act Stereolab this week released for the US their 10th full length album, Sound-Dust. It comes out next Monday for the UK. The 12 track set features arrangements and production by recent collaborators John McEntire (Tortoise), Jim O’Rourke (multi-instrumentalist, producer for—among many others—Sonic Youth, Storm And Stress, Enon, Smog) and Sean O’Hagen (The High Llamas).
Sound-Dust also features a wider array of instrumentation than on previous Stereolab discs including harpsichord and pedal steel guitar. According to the band’s official Website, it’s available in four formats: “1) Numbered limited edition handmade 'book' CD - 1200 copies only; 2) Numbered limited edition handmade 'book' LP - two 180gsm disks -1200 copies only; 3) Standard jewel case CD; 4) Standard double 180gsm LP - 1800 copies only.”
Stereolab start a major Europe/US tour tonight in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Europe dates run through 6 October, with the tour picking up again in Costa Mesa, California on 19 October for a full month in the US and Canada—including a show at the first ever US leg of All Tomorrow’s Parties. ATP-US takes place on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), 19-21 October. ATP tickets are going fast.
