Violet Indiana release first single from debut LP

On Monday, London hypnojazzpop duo Violet Indiana release the first single from their amazing debut album, Roulette. The single is Killer Eyes along with a pair of non-LP tracks, Storm and Safe Word, plus a video in QuickTime format.
    Violet Indiana are ex-Mono vocalist and songwriter Siobhan De Maré with guitarist, producer, and Cocteau Twins founder Robin Guthrie. Killer Eyes is the band’s third disc, following 2000’s Choke EP and this spring’s full length.
    The new single includes a gripping, disturbing, and ultimately poignant video for the title track, produced by visionary filmmaker Kieran Evans (The Czars, David Gray, Death In Vegas). By way of a sexual, voyeuristic motif, the Killer Eyes video conveys the pain of betrayal in shockingly effective fashion. If you haven’t quite grokked Violet Indiana, watch this video.
    Track two on the single, Storm, adopts the upright bass, brushed drums, downtempo mood of album track Air Kissing. But the spooky electronics along with De Maré’s superbly beautiful and creepy delivery evoke an emotional gestalt uniquely Violet Indiana, and miles away from anything else in the pop world today.
    Safe Word picks up the pace just enough to make you want to dance dreamily, eyes closed, with tears streaming down your cheeks. Yeah, I like it.
    So far the single is set for UK release only (but you can order it online through Amazon UK from anywhere). Early next month Violet Indiana release an all new four track EP titled Special, which will include another new video. The band are putting together a tour for September; we’ll post dates ASAP.
    Rockbites gives Violet Indiana’s Killer Eyes single five bites out of five.
