Secadora to play re-opening of legendary Coffee Gallery
23 August 2001
image
San Francisco’s legendary beat/jazz club the Coffee Gallery opened in October, 1965 with the first show ever by The Great Society (whose members included Jerry Garcia and Grace Slick). It was also where Janis Joplin first performed in SF.
Last month the Coffee Gallery re-opened after operating for 15 years under a different name (The Lost & Found Saloon) and with a different focus (blues).
To set the artistic tone for the reincarnated Coffee Gallery, there’s a free grand opening show on Saturday featuring The Orange Peels, Secadora, DJ Megaweapon, and DJ Miso; plus spoken word by Shailja Patel, Michael Cirelli, Kenny Mostern, Charles Ellik, and Robert Karimi. Doors open at 10:00 pm.
Girl George, who performed at the club in the ’60s and later managed it for a year, is back and will host an open mike night every Wednesday. | Secadora | | Girl George And The Dragons | | map to the Coffee Gallery | | top of page |
