The Reindeer Section LP to get US release in September
20 August 2001

Celtic (what else do you call a collaboration between musicians from Northern Ireland and Scotland?) supergroup The Reindeer Section, a project organized and led by Snow Patrol front man and songwriter Gary Lightbody, released their debut LP on 6 August for the UK on Belfast indie label Bright Star Recordings. Now PIAS America have announced that they will bring the 14 track set to the US on 25 September.
(The LP appears tomorrow in France and 24 September in Germany on PIAS (Play It Again Sam) Records. Bright Star hopes to release it domestically in Japan by the end of 2001.)
Drolly titled Y’all Get Scared Now, Ya Hear! (after Jed’s closing remark on the theme song for The Beverly Hillbillies), the album came together in a week and a half of sessions in Glasgow; there because Snow Patrol are on Glasgow-based Jeepster Records, as are most of the bands who joined in the fun.
The Reindeer Section include members of Arab Strap, Astrid, Belle & Sebastian, Eva, Hercules, Mogwai, Mull Historical Society, and V-Twin, along with Lightbody and Jonny Quinn from Snow Patrol. The mood is slow and dark, along the Czars-Low-Sappington-Zephyrs-Galaxie 500 axis.
You can get three tracks from the album as free MP3 downloads for a limited time from the project’s Web site. They’ll release a non-album track, Last Song On Blue Tape, as an MP3 download on 3 September.
Strangely enough, an incarnation of The Reindeer Section played live this year at Glasgow’s T In The Park festival (as did Arab Strap, Mull Historical Society, and Snow Patrol), and may stage at least one more live performance. Bright Star says to look for a show in Belgium next month.
