Melting Pot music festival final lineup revealed
16 August 2001

With a last minute change in location—from uninhabited desert to private land—and critical sponsorship secured—from a bottled water company, who will vend at the three day camp-out concert—the first Melting Pot music festival is on track for labor day weekend. The lineup, if rather obscure, is generous, with about 40 bands confirmed as of this writing.
Organizers had hoped to stage Melting Pot at an undisclosed location in the desert near Jawbone Canyon north of Los Angeles. But a soon as a member of a booked band made a call to California’s Bureau of Land Management a few weeks ago to get maps the gig was off, so to speak.
Then the owner of The Ponderosa in Apple Valley, about 50 miles northeast of LA, stepped forward with an offer to stage the event. The plan had been for Melting Pot to be free, but it will now cost $5 to enter the grounds to cover facilities costs.
