Deerhoof lay down studio, live tracks for new LP
13 August 2001

In late July, San Francisco noise/experimental trio Deerhoof recorded eight songs at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone studios—home to projects by the likes of Bright Eyes, Deltron 3030, MK Ultra, Of Montreal, and Spoon. The band plan to mix the tracks, along with a couple of live songs, at the end of this month for a not-yet-titled album-length release expected February 2002.
Deerhoof’s label (well, one of their labels) 5 Rue Christine says the LP will be extremely stripped down—nearly live with only the rare vocal overdub. Vocalist Satomi plays guitar for the record, while multi-instrumentalist John Dieterich (also associated with Ring Steppers, Gorge Trio, and Colossamite) plays bass. Greg, formerly in Nitre Pit with Deerhoof founding member Rob, plays drums & keyboards for the new album. Greg is also now playing with The Teeth—yet another Nitre Pit progeny.
Meanwhile, San Jose’s Xiu Xiu, who played their first show about a year ago, have landed on 5 Rue Christine thanks to their friendship with Deerhoof. The debut album by Xiu Xiu, titled I Will Buy You That, is due January. | Deerhoof on Kill Rock Stars | | 5RC records | | discography | | top of page |
