Super Furry Animals release UK-only LP, DVD; set tour

Welsh psychedelic experimentalists Super Furry Animals released on 23 July, for the UK only so far, their fifth full length. Titled Rings Around The World, the set is sitting at number 2 on the Amazon UK sales chart and has already been short-listed for the super prestigious Technics Mercury Prize.
    You can get Rings Around The Worlds now from Amazon UK (ordering from outside the UK is easy) in a 13 track CD edition; or in a DVD edition with 5.1 surround sound mixes in addition to the album’s stereo mix, plus bonus tracks, remix versions, and 12 short films. (The DVD is encoded to work only on players sold in Europe, the Mideast, and Japan.
    SFA recorded the songs at Monnow Valley Studios in Monmouth, Wales and at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York. Guests include John Cale (ex Velvet Underground, solo) and Paul McCartney (ex Beatles, Wings, solo). Sean O’Hagan and Marcus Holdaway (of The High Llamas) wrote string arrangements for some of the tracks.
    The regular album tracks are Alternate Route To Vulcan Street, Sidewalk Serfer Girl, (Drawing) Rings Around The World, It’s Not The End Of The World?, Receptacle For The Respectable, (A) Touch Sensitive, Shoot Doris Day, Miniature, No Sympathy, Juxtapozed With U, Presidential Suite, Run! Christian Run!, and Fragile Happiness.
    In September and October SFA will stage their first major UK tour in almost two years. And this coming Sunday they play the Witnness festival near Dublin, headlining the Rising stage. Here are SFA’s upcoming UK tour dates, along with informational phone numbers
