2 April 2001

Inspired by and following on from the first Ladyfest celbration held August, 2000 in Olympia, Washington, three Ladyfests take place this coming August: in Glasgow; Easthampton, Massachussets; and Chicago—check the link to our earlier story, below. The Ladyfest Midwest Chicago (LMC) festival has now announced its primary venue: the 2,890-seat historic Congress Theatre—and has revealed an initial artist lineup.
Confirmed artists include Amy Ray (of Indigo Girls), Blectum from Blechdom, Bratmobile, The Butchies, Lauren Flax (of Femme Fatale), Tami Hart, The Hissyfits, Danielle Howle, DJ Jenuine, Le Tigre, DJ MINX, Rainbow Sugar, Slumber Party, The Need, Tegan & Sara, Tracy and the Plastics, and Shannon Wright.
In addition to music, LMC like the original Ladyfest will offer a full program of workshops, classes, and discussions covering (among other topics) women and the death penalty, growing up with GLBT parents, women’s health care issues, activist female entrepreneurship, the music industry, 4-track recording, women in publishing, guitar maintenance, motorcycle mechanics, tattoos, self-defense, kick boxing, and youth leadership training.
Sponsors so far include Bust Magazine and international media arts/activist center Women In the Director’s Chair (WIDC), but LMC needs more sponsors. They invite individuals, women-owned companies, civic and arts foundations, universities, the media, and responsible corporations to contact Tammy Cresswell at (+1)773-489-6534 or tammycresswell@usa.net, or Martha Wright at chiladies@excite.com. | earlier Rockbites story on Ladyfests | | Ladyfest Midwest Chicago | | Congress Theatre info | | top of page |
