Second annual tribute/benefit for Morphine vocalist 6 September 2000
The 46 year old lead singer and bassist for US blues pop trio Morphine died following a heart attack on stage in Italy outside of Rome in July 1999. He collapsed after the band performed their second song. A doctor on the scene attempted to save his life using cardiac massage, but Sandman died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. On the day of the concert the city of Boston will rename Central Square at the corner of Brookline and Massachussets Avenue as Mark Sandman Square. Also on the 24th, the new Morphine documentary At Your Service will premiere. On the 26th, Rykodisc will release in the US a live Morphine album titled Bootleg: Detroit. The enhanced CD chronicles a March 1994 performance and includes two video clips.
