Unicycle Records posts Rock Out SF audio on Web
28 September 2000

San Francisco indie label Unicycle Records was scrambling around town last Saturday lunch time with DAT and MiniDisc recorders capturing impromptu performances by local artists participating in the first annual Rock Out SF demonstration. They’ve now posted audio for free streaming listening on the Live365.com site that includes performances by 401-K, 500 Club, Calico String Band, Cinematic, Uriah Duffy, Electra Band, The Freedom, Haight Free Radio, Junk, National Joy Band, Persephone's Bees, Queen Mab, Sick Dawn, Slender, Sourpuss, Speedboat, Sunfish One, and Wandering Stars. More to come, they say.
Rock Out SF was the first major event in support of the nascent Save Local Music movement in the Bay area, prompted by an accelerating disappearance of rehearsal space and the shutting down of several live music venues. San Francisco Supervisor Gavin Newsom said “These people are not being alarmist, the evidence is incontrovertible. If you have no incubator space, the seeds of the community will die off, or go somewhere else. We’ve been the beneficiary of the music community for years and it seems we’re standing on the precipice of losing it.” | Unicycle Records | | Rockout SF music on Unicycle | | Rock Out SF | | Save Local Music | | top of page |
