Scottish techno duo Mount Florida (their name comes from their place of origin, a section of Glasgow) release their debut album Arrived Phoenix on 23 October in the UK, January 2001 in North America.
On 5 October they’ll play live over the Web from The Lemon Tree club in Aberdeen as part of the annual United Nations show, an edition of the BBC’s National Sessions that combines performances from Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. BBC Radio 1 carries the music starting 8:00 pm BST (3:00 pm EDT).
Other bands for the Aberdeen event include Teenage Fanclub and V-Twin. Performing at Queens University in Belfast will be JJ72 and Jacknife Lee. And Terris play at the Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff. You can get tickets to the events by calling 08700 100 100 or listen like a geek on your computer—check our direct link.
Mount Florida—MP Lancaster (Mike Lancaster), formerly of Muslimgauze, and Twitch (Keith McIvor), also DJ at Glasgow’s Pure club and a member of Vodershow—played their live debut 29 July at their hometown Barrowlands. They’ve released a few EPs, from which Matador Records Europe has posted four full length MP3 files.
If you can get to London before the end of the month you can enjoy MP Lancaster’s commissioned soundtrack to the Chemical Society’s video exhibition A Visual Interpretation Of The Table Of The Elements, installed at the Royal Geographic Society. The visually striking Visual Elements Web site is worth a visit, and includes a download section with some rather nice desktop patterns and images for Windows and Mac OS. | Mount Florida on Matador Europe | | BBC Radio 1 feed | | Visual Elements at Chemical Society | | MP3s from Matador Europe | | bio | | discography | | top of page |
