This Sunday (17 September) composer John Williams (Star Wars, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Schindler’s List) leads members of The Philadelphia Orchestra in A Night To Remember, a benefit concert for the Rena Rowan Foundation For The Homeless. The show starts 8:00 pm at Philadelphia’s Academy Of Music, preceded by pre-concert supper for those with appropriate tickets. Joining the orchestra will be violinist Itzhak Perlman, jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, and singer Vic Damone. Film director Steven Spielberg will host the event. You can purchase tickets online at the Philadelphia Orchestra site or by calling +1 (215) 893-1999.
Rena Rowan, co-founder of the Jones Apparel Group (Jones New York, Polo Jeans Company, Nine West) established her Foundation For The Homeless five years ago. Its first project was Rowan House, which provides free shelter for homeless women and children for up to two years and offers job training, transportation, health care, and child care. The Foundation’s next project, targeted for this fall, will be a permanent low cost housing project in Philadelphia.
You can donate to the Foundation by calling +1 (215) 985-9989 or by sending a check to Rena Rowan Foundation for the Homeless Inc., 210 W. Rittenhouse Square Suite 1102, Philadelphia PA 19103, USA.
The Foundation shares a building with Philadelphia’s People’s Emergency Center, which provides shelter, services, education, and job training for the city’s homeless. While the Rowan Foundation is still working on establishing a Web site, the PEC provides an info page. | Philadelphia Orchestra | | Philadelphia People's Emergency Center | | Rena Rowan info from PEC | | top of page |
