David Thomas tours with Pere Ubu, Two Pale Boys, UBUDOLL
9 October 2000

Avant-gardist and musical visionary David Thomas began a nine week performance series this past Friday with a solo spoken word show in Venice, California. On Saturday his best-known band Pere Ubu played the first of eight gigs for 2000—25 years on from their proto-punk/industrial beginnings in Cleveland—at the Los Angeles Knitting Factory. The LA show was, sad to say, their only gig this time ’round west of the Mississippi. They pick up again on the 14th in New York, running through 20 October with a show at Chicago’s Double Door.
After the short Pere Ubu US tour, Thomas continues to Europe for some shows in November and December in the UK and Scandinavia playing variously with Two Pale Boys (Thomas with Andy Diagram & Keith Moliné) and with UBUDOLL (Thomas plus Jackie Leven of Doll By Doll).
Thomas finished the second Two Pale Boys LP last month and expects to release it in January.
Pere Ubu, who have coalesced into a working band frequently since their reunion in 1987, released an LP in 1998 titled Pennsylvania. Thomas’ most recent album Bay City, released this April, was with his band David Thomas And Foreigners—a serendipitious collaboration of Thomas and three Danes who recorded in the countryside near Copenhagen over a span of three years. Atrecordings.com provides the entire album as a free RealAudio stream. And you can get a free MP3 file of the Pere Ubu/Wayne Kramer (ex MC5) track Wasteland from musicblitz.com. | Ubu Web | | Ubu Projex | | tour dates | | Bay City (full LP - RealAudio) | | bio | | discography | | sample from Pennsylvania | | CD | | top of page |
