Deltron 3030 take sly-fi hip-hop romp across North America
30 October 2000
image
Ubiquitous producer Dan The Automator (Dan Nakamura)—he’s worked with Kool Keith, The Beastie Boys, Stereolab, and Jon Spencer to name a few—has a new hip-hop band with Del tha Funkee Homosapien on vocals & lyrics and Kid Koala on turntables. They call it Deltron 3030.
The trio released their self-titled debut a couple of weeks ago on fast rising indie label 75 Ark, and will hit the road 6 November in New York city for a ten stop North American tour. All shows are with People Under The Stairs and Ugly Ducking, except a San Francisco show on 22 November with Blackalicious.
The 21 track album is sly-fi hip-hop, a futuristically retro romp with an eclectic grab bag of samples worthy of a musical edition of Win Ben Stein’s Money. Anybody catch Loud, Loud, Loud from Aphrodite’s Child?
The packaging, sleeve notes, and music all combine to make one of the most enjoyable concept albums in recent memory. Recommended. | 75 Ark records | | tour dates | | bio | | discography | | sample | | CD | | top of page |
