At The Drive In shift into gear for major North Am tour
3 October 2000

Having had the rug unfortunately pulled out from under them in July—when Beastie Boy Mike D’s bicycling accident halted the Beasties/ Rage Against The Machine/ ATDI tour just before it started—El Paso, Texas post punkers At The Drive In begin their own seven week tour of the US and Canada tomorrow night at the Glass House in Pomona, California. They’re playing all dates with the Murder City Devils. On Halloween night you can catch ATDI playing on NBC television’s Late Night With Conan O’Brien.
ATDI are supporting two recent releases: a new studio LP out last month on their new label Grand Royal (with EMD/Virgin) titled Relationship Of Command, and a long-awaited re-release of their 1996 album Acrobatic Tenement on US indie label Flipside. Never widely distributed, that now legendary set has been out of print for years.
Back in ’96, languishing undiscovered, ATDI often played to nearly empty clubs. Blaze James of Flipside, now their manager, had the foresight in those early days to capture the band to tape. James recorded Acrobatic Tenement in a couple of days in Los Angeles for well under US$1,000 right after the band finished a southwest US tour. They broke out internationally only this year, playing the Reading Festival and moving to The Beastie Boys’ Grand Royal label.
The Beastie Boys, in the mean time, release a double DVD video/music box set on 7 November worldwide (pushed back from an earlier release date of 10 October). There’s info about the DVD set on the Beastie Boys’ site. | At The Drive In | | tour dates | | tour info at ATDI site | | Beastie Boys DVD box-set info | | bio | | discography | | sample | | CD | | top of page |
