Sad Rockets release third instrumental LP
23 October 2000

Andrew Pekler, aka prolific acoustronica artist Sad Rockets, releases next week his third album of instrumental jazz/ ambient/ noise/ head-trip fun. An incendiary device of jaw dropping creativity disguised as a mere CD, the album contains 13 tracks recorded—remarkably—mostly solo by Pekler to four track in his home studio. It hits US shelves 31 October on Matador.
Pekler was born in Uzbekistan, raised in Marin County north of San Francisco, and recently moved from Heidelberg to Berlin. He recorded Transition over a 16 month stretch starting December 1998 with help from drummer Steffen Neuert and violinist Kyros Khoschlessan.
Transition evokes images of ’60s TV spy shows, ’70s ECM records, and alien lounge jazz. It manages to sound subdued, soothing, breathtaking, and aggressive at once. Very tasty. It follows Sad Rockets’ 1998 release Plays, still available from Amazon UK, and 1999’s Once Upon A Time Called Now, available from Amazon Germany. CDnow in the US stocks all three albums.
When he’s not creating for Sad Rockets, Pekler plays in post Krautrock bands Bergheim 34 and Mucus 2.
Rockbites enthusiastically recommends Sad Rockets’ Transition. | Sad Rockets on Matador | | Twenty-six (full length MP3) | | Plays (Amazon UK) | | Once Upon A Time Called Now (Amazon Germany) | | bio | | discography | | sample from Once Upon A Time Called Now | | CD | | top of page |
