6 November 2000

Two dozen artists have stepped forward to perform at the first of a series of benefit concerts for vocalist/violinist/composer Petra Haden, seriously injured on 31 August when a vehicle hit her in Venice, California. She sustained injuries to her head, both legs, her ribs, and her pelvis. Haden is recovering at home but cannot walk yet. She has no health insurance.
The show takes place 26 November starting 3 pm at the Los Angeles Knitting Factory, on two stages. Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Gos will MC. Performers include Beck, Abby Travis, Victoria Williams & The Creek Dippers, members of The Go-Gos, Tenacious D (w/Jack Black), Nels Cline, Phranc, Exene Cervenka & The Original Sinners, Mother Superior, Keith Morris, Judith Owen, Fatso Jetson, W.A.C.O., Bunny (w/actor, director Vincent Gallo), Stephin Perkins, The Cal Tjader Memorial BBQ Band (w/Danny Frankel & DJ Bonebrake), The Ghastly Griffith (magician), Solid Eye, Miss Murgatroid, Josh Haden, Imaginary Bear Puppet Show, The Brothers Holtzman, RadioBemba (w/Joachim Cooder—Ry Cooder’s son), and Polar Goldie Cats. Tickets are US$25 in advance, $30 the day of the show and are available now from the venue (+1 323-463-0204) or online.
Haden released her first solo album last year, the partly a capella and wordless, partly instrumental, largely experimental Imaginaryland. Daughter of jazz bassist Charlie Haden, she was previously in LA pop band That Dog along with sister Rachel. She’s worked with Jen Wood, Beck, Luscious Jackson, April March, Foo Fighters, Everclear, Midget Handjob, Green Day... the list goes on.
Her label Win Records says there will be additional benefit concerts to help offset the extraordinary cost of treating Haden’s extensive injuries. | Petra Haden on Win Records | | Benefit info | | Tickets | | Fan site | | discography | | sample | | CD | | top of page |
