'MusicDNA' technology to track music file transfers 3 November 2000 It works using DSP (digital signal processing) and psychoacoustic modeling, and can identify songs no matter how theyre encoded. Effective implementation would require industry-wide adoption of the CantaMetrix registry and tracking method. CantaMetrix says MusicDNA will allow services such as Napster to fully acount for file transfers, providing a robust basis for artist compensation. Morton E. Astrup of Norwegian venture capitalist firm Ørn Groupwho are funding CantaMetrixsaid Its all about providing a revenue model for the industry that also makes sense to the artists. MusicDNA uses the CantaMetrix search/ recognition/ classification/ recommendation engine announced this July. Its a fully machine-based system that CantaMetrix claims has scalability and other advantages over so-called Collaborative Filtering systems. Youre using a CF system whenever you click a recommendation link on Amazon or CDnowor use a dedicated service such as provided on the new MuBu and Song Explorer sites. | CantaMetrix | | MuBu | | Song Explorer | | top of page | |
