Belle & Sebastian raise £3,000 in talent auction
27 November 2000

Glasgow retro pop act Belle & Sebastian have announced they’ve raised approximately £3,000 (US$4,250) for charity in an online talent auction that closed last week. Band members and others offered a dizzying spectrum of services ranging from baking a loaf of bread—offered by Super Furry Animals front man Gruff Rhys (he’s shipping it to the winner, who paid £25)—to a full body massage. The highest bid went to getting help with writing a song from B&S founder Stuart Murdoch; that brought £405.
Proceeds go to Glasgow charities The Maryhill Key Housing Tenants Fund, The Lodging House Mission, and Calton Athletic Drug Rehabilitation Program. Whether or not you submitted a winning bid, you can still contribute to these charities through the band’s Web site. | Belle & Sebastian | | Auction items | | discography | | sample from Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant | | top of page |
