San Diego, California based music Web site MP3.com, rebounding from legal hassles with the big five record labels, has just opened a London office and launched three localized (translated) Web sites providing access to their nearly 700,000 MP3 files in French, German, and Spanish. Each site comprises more than 1.5 million pages.
MP3.com estimates that 19,000 European musical artists are using the Internet to distribute their work. Carolyn Cantor, new president of MP3.com International, said “The translated sites will mean greater ease of use for the international community of music fans and broader exposure for digital artists.”
MP3.com recently concluded legal payments in the US$100 million range to Universal Music, Warner, BMG, EMI, and Sony to settle a copyright dispute. New licensing agreements allow them to continue their Beam It and Instant Listening services, which let users register CDs they own and then play back songs from those CDs on any computer with Internet access. | MP3.com Français | | MP3.com Deutsche | | MP3.com Español | | top of page |
