Lesser readies new LP amidst mail order bride flare-up
1 November 2000

San Francisco based noise/electronica composer Jay Lesser—aka LSR, 157, Backfire, and currently Lesser—signed to Matador Records this past May. He’ll release a new solo techno album in January, titled Gearhound, the followup to his 1997 LP Welcome To The American Experience. That one, released on Vinyl Communications, featured a sardonic sleeve with mail order bride photos.
Markuss Popp (Oval, Microstoria) was scheduled to play some gigs last month with Lesser but refused to perform on the same stage, claiming that Lesser supports the mail order bride industry. Lesser wonders if perhaps the real reason might be Popp’s disaffection with track two from that album, Markus Popp Can Kiss My Redneck Ass.
In any case, Lesser plans to tour the eastern US this fall/winter with Cex, Kid 606, and Blechtum From Blechdom. We’ll post details when they’re available. | Lesser | | Lesser on Vinyl Communications | | Markus Popp interview | | bio | | discography | | sample from Welcome To The American Experience | | top of page |
