Pete Townshend, musical mastermind behind English rock legends The Who, will auction instruments and memorabilia online for a week starting 10 May at noon BST (7 am EDT). Money raised will benefit flood and drought victims in Mozambique and Ethiopa, through charity organzation Oxfam.
The collection includes a 1957 Fender Stratocaster guitar given to Townshend by Eric Clapton as a thank you for helping at Clapton’s 1973 Rainbow Theatre charity concert. Also on the block are Townshend’s classical guitar he used to compose Behind Blue Eyes, several gold and platinum awards, and letters from Paul McCartney and Keith Richards.
