GLAAD describes Eminems new LP as 'gay bashing' 30 May 2000 The US based Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation issued an alert last Thursday describing the new Eminem album The Marshall Mathers LP as gay bashing, and called on its members to contact UNI/Interscope and the artist asking for a greater sense of responsibility. Here is a sample of the new albums lyrics quoted in the alert You faggots keep egging me onThe alert reads in part While Eminem certainly has the freedom of speech to rap whatever he wants, it is irresponsible for UNI/Interscope Records as a company to produce and promote such defamatory material that encourages violence and hatred. This is especially negligent when considering the market for this music has been shown to be adolescent males, the very group that statistically commits the most hate crimes... [Eminem] recently told MTV that he does not hate gays, but his lyrics speak for themselves. Let Eminem know how such disregard for others can lead to discrimination, physical abuse and even death. He can be reached through his manager. Heres the contact info for Eminems manager Paul Rosenberg| NME story | | GLAAD alert | | Eminem | | discography | | sample | | top of page | |
