First annual Detroit Electronic Music Festfinal day 29 May 2000 The entirely free event today offers performances by A Guy Called Gerald, Bone, Sean Deason, Dego, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Direct Beat Assassins, Lauren Flax, Richie Hawtin, Mike Huckaby, Derrick May, Oscar McMillan, Derek Plaslaiko, Rolando, Ronin, RX-7 The Electro Elite, Kevin Saunderson, Shake, Theorem, Urban Tribe, Vitreous Flux, and Clark Warner. Introducing the event, DEMF artistic director and Planet E Records CEO Carl Craig said We want to spotlight Detroit artists that are known world-wide and let everyone know that this city has been a breeding ground for this music over the last 10 years. But we also want to create a festival line-up that showcases the international electronic scene. Up to a million concertgoers were expected.
