The Smashing Pumpkins to disband this year
24 May 2000
Front man Billy Corgan announced yesterday on Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM that following their current tour and the recording of a final studio LP, The Smashing Pumpkins will break up by the end of 2000. A spokesperson confirmed the plan, but band label Virgin Records would not comment.
Sales have been poor for the Pumpkins’ current release Machina/The Machines Of God. Corgan declared his band are “at the end of our road emotionally, spiritually, and musically....”
They play at the Berkeley Community Theatre tonight and play three more US dates before starting a tour of Japan on 20 June. Their final US performance looks to be next Tuesday at the Portland Civic Auditorium. | Billboard story | | tour dates | | The Smashing Pumpkins | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
