Califone on tour with Modest Mouse, plan debut LP 12 May 2000 US experimental band Califone, which features members of Chicago’s Red Red Meat and Loftus, start a major US tour tonight at First Avenue in Minneapolis. They’re supporting their new self-titled EP on Road Cone records (the first was also S/T), playing all dates with northwest US trio Modest Mouse. The tour extends to mid or late June. Califone front man Tim Rutili says the new EP is about “...disaster, grace, luck, television nature documentaries, dead folk singers, and confounding beauty.” Perishable records, Rutili’s label, says Califone hope to release a full length studio LP this year—but they’re not promising anything. Amazon is offering the non-CD track St. Augustine for free Liquid Audio download.
