12 May 2000

Three original members of UK punk band The Clash—Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, and Topper Headon—are scheduled to perform on the same stage on 16 June in London during a tribute to English punk/pop icon Ian Dury. There has been no announcement of an 18 year Clash reunion (their last show was in 1982), but the potential is there.
Dury died of cancer in March at age 57, survived by a wife and four children. The tribute concert will benefit the British charity for which Dury was the spokesperson, CancerBACUP.
Also scheduled to perform at the Brixton Academy show are Robbie Williams (who in 1998 visited Sri Lanka with Dury), Kirsty MacColl, Suggs (from Madness), Saffron (from Republica), Neneh Cherry, and Dury’s backing band The Blockheads.
On Wednesday 17 May, a smaller scale tribute/benefit show takes place at No More Blues in New York city, with proceeds also going to CancerBACUP. | Live Daily story | | Ian Dury (unofficial) | | CancerBACUP | | discography | | top of page |
