30 March 2000
image
The first annual Chicago edition of the San Francisco based Noise Pop festival takes place 10-15 May at six Chicago area venues and will feature more than 55 artists. With an expanded format that includes improvizational jazz and DJs, organizers expect attendance to top that of the recent eighth annual San Francisco Noise Pop.
Artists confirmed include Wire, with front man Colin Newman also performing a DJ set; Apples In Stereo; Sleater-Kinney; Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and avant-gardist Jim O’Rourke performing a duo show; Modest Mouse; Oranger; Versus; the Vandermark 5’s Ken Vandermark performing with his Sound In Action trio; Modesto, California’s fast rising Grandaddy; and many others.
The Noise Pop site and Unicycle records each have interviews and taped performances available online from this year’s San Francisco Noise Pop. | CDnow allstar story | | Noise Pop Chicago | | Unicycle records | | top of page |
