The Cure to disband after 24 years
2 March 2000
Speaking to Reuters news service this week, The Cure’s front man and sole remaining original member Robert Smith said “I just feel that it would be good to stop while we’re still good. I don’t really want to taint the legacy of what I’ve done with the first 20 years of my adult life by continuing on [just] because that’s what I do. And also, I think if I don’t try something else now, I never will.”
The Cure’s Bloodflowers, released last month, is the final album in a trilogy that includes 1982’s Pornography and 1989’s Disintegration. The band begin a European tour, potentially their last, on 27 March at the Riviera in Madrid. | Wall of Sound story | | discography | | sample | | CD | | top of page |
