Dennis Danell of Social Distortion dies at 38
1 March 2000
Guitarist Dennis Danell, who joined LA’s Social Distortion as a bassist in 1979, died on 29 February at age 38 of a brain aneurysm according to his manager.
Front man Mike Ness said “I am saddened beyond any possible form of expression. Dennis and I have been friends since boyhood, starting Social Distortion while we were in high school. My deepest regrets to his family.”
Danell joined within a year of SD’s founding, and switched from bass to guitar in 1981 when Brent Liles joined the band. His final SD album was 1998’s Live At The Roxy. Since then he had been recording bands in Social Distortion’s Orange County, California studio. Danell leaves behind his wife Christie and children aged 3 years and 6 months. | Billboard story | | allstar News story | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
