TVT Records joins lawsuit parade against Napster 8 June 2000 New York city based indie label TVT Records joined the Recording Industry Association of America, Metallica, and Dr. Dre as Napster antagonists on Wednesday when it filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the software startup. The lawsuit also targets a set of US universities whose names were not released. San Mateo, California based Napster, Inc. provides Windows-only software that allows easy trading of MP3 music files over the Internet via a central server. The system logs downloads but performs no checking as to whether files are copyrighted. The non-copy protected MP3 (MPEG I, layer 3) format supports file size compression, speeding downloads, while retaining reasonable audio quality. | Billboard story | | Napster | | TVT Records | | top of page | |
