Hole post MP3 rarities on official Web site
29 June 2000

The official Hole Web site has posted more than 50 rare or previously unavailable tracks for download in MP3 (MPEG I, layer 3) format. Most notable is the demo track Asking For It featuring Courtney Love’s ex-husband/Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain on backing vocals. Cobain killed himself in April 1994, the month that the studio version of the song was released on the LP Live Through This.
In May Love delivered a scathing speech to the Digital Hollywood conference in New York, in which she attempted to reframe the Napster/MP3/copyright debate from the perspective of working musicians—most of whom, according to Love, get bled dry by the recording industry well before considering the impact of MP3 downloads.
Hole plan to return to the studio this fall to record an album for release next year. | NME story | | Hole MP3 downloads | | Asking For It (MP3 - 1.4 MB download) | | Love's Digital Hollywood speech | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
